Friday Walks

Ah, finally a break in the heat and humidity. We spent the afternoon painting in the yard and then taking a walk to look for birds. Nathan pretended to pick up a pet cat for the walk, and Maya bent over to get something up too. Then I realized that she really was carrying something and asked her to drop it (a rock maybe?). We watched a little spider hastening away as Maya repeated, "Spider, spider." Nathan and I were astonished.

When Peter came home, we took another relaxing walk, this time with Nathan on his scooter and Maya in the wagon. For dinner I made a lasagna even though Maya insisted on "cake, cake!" I lit and put two tall, twirly birthday candles in the kids' lasagnas which Peter introduced as "pasta cake." It was such a success that we're considering candles for a spinach or salad cake soon.
