It was a mild evening for October, and we all went out trick-or-treating. We left a bucket of candy out in case we missed any little costumed children during our brief round.

Peter took over Aunt Katie's job from last year and pulled the Spanfelners' wagon. Although not a big deal for adults, the spaces between houses and the long, sometimes steep, driveways can tire even the most ardent little trick-or-treaters, especially in the dark. We met one group of older children who were followed by their father in a lawnmower pulling a trailer. He said that they were not interested in riding in it, at least not so early in the evening.

Nathan designed this year's great jack-o-lantern. Both children loved trick-or-treating and cajoled their obliging parents to "go to just one more house." Nathan said that he wished Halloween could last two days or even longer, and Maya exhuberantly shouted, "Thank you! Thank you!" as she left each home. Happy Halloween!
