More Pumpkins
If you fall asleep in the car and if your mother has a penchant for historical sites, you might awaken to find yourself at the Nale Hale Homestead as Nathan and Maya did a few weeks ago. The grounds are serene and lovely, perfect for running around and exploring. Benches invite visitors to snack or read...or, as Maya did, collect a large amount of acorns. When the wind blew though, we ran for cover as acorns pelted down.
Nathan in a pirate pose. Maya and Nathan were delighted to find a small model ship on the grounds which resembles some of the life-size ones at Mystic Seaport. The staff did not know why the ship was out, and they were much more interested in Nathan's name and Maya's dress anyway.
Nathan filled his pockets with acorns. He wanted to plant them in our yard and pondered ways to prevent dogs and squirrels from digging them up. The staff had told us that they successfully grew a Nathan Hale oak tree at their home. We will be on the lookout for any tree sproutings later since Nathan may have randomly planted his acorns...or tucked them away elsewhere.
