Proudly Introducing Dr. Katie

We celebrated Katie's successful (of course!) defense of her dissertation with champagne and lunch. Katie is so smart and well-loved, and it showed during her defense which felt much like a friendly, thoughtful, scholarly conversation. What a wonderful defense, to converse with faculty who clearly respected her and to be surrounded by family and friends who love her, a great reward for years of hard work. (Katie wore a lovely blouse to the defense; this great party shirt is from Aparna.)

Peter and the kids came out to campus with cupcakes which Maya promptly enjoyed with Amy. With full appreciation for writing, Nathan is highly impressed by all those sentences we write. He saw just one page of my dissertation and exclaimed: "You wrote all that? Wow!" Magnify that by a couple hundred pages and that's how very, very proud we all are of Dr. Katie!
