Peter's Birthday Weekend
We celebrated Peter's birthday with a weekend in Maine. Where in the world are we? Exploring at the Children's Museum of Maine in Portland on a brisk Sunday afternoon.
A quick trip into outer space in the space shuttle.

The museum offered a lobster boat exhibit, and their grocery store area included both a seafood-on-ice section as well as a display of organic fruits and vegetables. Ah, we do love Maine! Peter thinks that easy access to open spaces contributes to the friendliness of the Maine residents we have met, at least those along the coast.

This Flatbread pizza restaurant is right on the water, and after we inspected the progress of our organic pizzas in the brick oven, we looked at the fire department's and other boats docked at the harbor alongside the restuarant. We met a lady who said that she took the mail boat in to meet her family and she encouraged us to visit all the islands this way.
Peter's birthday began with a morning walk on the beach. It was sunny and beautiful, but chilly at about forty breezy degrees. Nathan and I jogged from one enormous clam shell to another while Peter, in his windbreaker, carried Maya, a warm-weather beach bunny, on a shorter walk. Afterwards the birthday guy chose lunch at Congdon's Doughnuts, famous for their hearty breakfasts and tasty, cake-style doughnuts. Beach, brunch, and a buttercrunch doughnut.... Happy Birthday, Peter!
